which original key in 1967?

Did '67 trucks use the 60's Briggs 6 sided key or the larger 4 sided key that was
used in the 70's-80's?

I had a 67 once and it came with the 6 sided key.

Thanks for you help. I just acquired a 67 swb from original family. The truck had been sitting a while and the key was lost. I'm going to pull one of the door locks and take it to a locksmith for him to recut a new key - just needed to know which style.

Start with the passengers side door lock. As the guys have said, the ‘67’s originally came with the Octagon key. It uses the “A” keyway and the original blanks can be hard to find. The later style rectangular head “A” key blank will also work in it. When GM went to the dished ignition bezel in ’67 they didn’t think about the octagon key being recessed and hard to turn. The dealerships received a lot of complaints about it so GM changed the key design to the rectangular head. Some early ‘68’s came from the factory with small octagon head key also. They used the "C" keyway blanks. The key code will be located on the door lock as shown in the picture and will always be stamped into the lock case.

Also remember that the '67's and some early '68's did not have an accessory position on the ignition switch....

OK, I had some brain flatulence here so I had to edit all of my posts. The '67's use the "A" key blank, not the "C" key blank. I couldn't edit my picture so I deleted the post. I will post pictures of the "A" key blanks in this post. They are visibly different but will interchange. Sorry about that....

Check to see if there is a letter designation on your current key. If your ignition cylinder has been changed in the past it may no longer have the "A" keyway. If it doesn't have the "A" keyway the Octagon key won't work in it.

I guess I have one of those early '68's. I don't have an acc position and I do have a small octagon key. My PO didn't whine to GM, though, he just fixed the problem his self:





After I posted that picture, I noticed that my key has a 'C' stamped on it. Swapped ignition? The doors are the same key.

"C" would be correct for the '68's. Re-read my posts because I edited them to correct the information.

GM used the octagon keys until cars got locking columns and separate ign. & door locks in '68. Trucks didn't get that till '73 but started getting the square keys ahead of that.
