88-94 speaker replacement?
Sorry if this has been covered before but I haven't been able to dig anything up.
In my 93 after 21 years one of the original dash speakers has finally given up the ghost. On the back of the speaker it says it has an impedance of 9.5 ohms and I may be no expert on auto stereo's but I do know they are a 4x6's and these days pretty well everything is 4 ohms or less- at least from what I've found. I'm running the original eq style radio and would rather not have to change it, I like the interior to look as clean and original as possible. So as far as a replacement what are my options? Would a 4 ohm speaker not draw power from the receiver to the point that it burns it up? or are they safe to run? I'm just looking for something that sounds as clean the originals did but better is an option too! haha Also, im not overly concerned with how much bass they put out, I realize they're only 4x6's, and Ive got an 8" sub behind the seat to cover that. Any suggestions are a help. Thanks, Joe

Re: 88-94 speaker replacement?
I've been running kenwood 4ohm 4x6's in my 93 dually with the stock am/fm cassette Eq radio for 4+ yrs with no problems, but the most I run no more than 60% max volume.
2 yrs of Dual 6.5's in the 98 k2500 with no issues. If you push hard look up the size of resistor to change 4ohm to 9.5 ohm to be safe. Or hide a small audio booster hidden away using the stock speaker outs to the booster in side and booster out to new speakers. |

Re: 88-94 speaker replacement?
Just dont buy the parts store brands and you'll be happy. I just wanted sound in a pinch but for $30-40 or whatever it was the 2 autozone speakers were blown in a month or two.
My crew cab came to me with clarions installed in all the doors and dash and they had deleted the 4x10s in the back behind the seat corners. They are holding up really well, I wouldn't be afraid to buy similar ones again. I blare the radio most days all during work and sometimes after and I've had that truck 5 years.

I have DB Drives in my truck with the stock stereo running a Buick amp and they sound amazing.
