Aftermarket heat/air

Does anyone have experience with both "Old Air" and "Vintage" air? How much better is one than the other??

Im at a point soon where Ill be ready to re-install the heat/ac. When I bought the truck it had a complete "Old Air" system---but the P O said he couldn't or hadn't had it working. Ive heard several comments about both systems.
My question is: is it worth the time and trouble to install the one system and try to get it work or just bite the bullit and go with a vintage air. It will probably run at least 2 to 3 hundred for new hoses and dryer for the old system. As well as having a tech. pull a vacuum on the system and add Freon.

I would write or call Vintage Air. They will help you trouble shoot it. Depending on what they tell you may help you make a better decision. They have great customer service. How old of a system is it?

Umm, I would call OldAir before I call Vintage about an OldAir systems

I like how OldAir has the new electronic dash piece. It seems Vintage wants you to re-use the old dash and cables to run their electric motors. Something like that.

I don't have either, so I'm interested in the responses as well.

Well I screwed that one up. Mis read your post. Call Old Air. I don't know jack about their system or customer service....

VA has updated their kit using servos in place of the cables. You can still use the original control panel, but without the cables. Works great. Or they sell an electronic control panel $$

Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater. Fix the old air system. I've got an OA system on mine. I'm happy with it.

I have installed many Old Air Systems in customer's vehicles in my shop and am very happy with them. Give them a call and they will help you get it it working. They are "good people".

I have Vintage in 3 of my drivers and am happy with each one. Will be putting another in my 68 truck this spring

If you have it use it.

I found an auto parts store that would loan me the fitting crimpers, if I bought the fittings and hose from them. If you want to vac and charge it yourself, You can buy a pump and gauges and all the parts for a third the cost of a new system, and have the equipment to service all your rides from now on.

Thanks for the ideas, guys. If "old air" does in fact have a good customer service- I may save the baby and the bathwater!!!!
Since I never saw the system run when I bought the truck---and since Id heard some negatives about OA, I thought it might be time to switch.

Since there is quite a bit of interest Ill be sure to post the "re-install" on my build thread as well as here (if my feeble old mind can remember to do it!!)

I Finally had the time to get with "Old Air". I spent several minutes asking questions and discussing my system as I think I know it to be and Im pleased so far with their help and answers.

I learned some things about their system, enough that Im now sure (or as sure as I can be at this point) that the system I have will in fact take care of the heating and cooling needs Ill have.

A few minutes on the phone dispelling some old rumors about their system may very well save me a lot . At their suggestion, I believe at this point that the only thing I should have to replace in order to bring this system back to life will be a new Dryer and a new expansion valve and some new heater hoses.

They were very helpful and emailed me the complete installation instructions, so-- instead of changing the whole thing out at this point.

We'll give her a try-----cost difference will be $1300 for a different system, or aprox. $200 for revive this one. Since I believe (at this point) that this system should do as well as a new "vintage air" unit, Im willing to take the gamble I guess.

In the next few weeks as I start the work on the truck again, Ill take pics and document the fun in the build thread.
