Brake Hose Help

My brake hoses are way too long (See pic). My calipers and hose are from a 78 C10 which have different fittings and length than the 72 C10's.

78 C10 Hose:
End 1 Thread Size: 0.44 Inch
End 1 Type: Banjo
End 2 Thread Size: 5/8-18, 3/8-24 Inch
End 2 Type: Male, Female
Total Length (In): 22-7/8 Inch

72 C10 Hose:
End 1 Thread Size: 7/16-20 Inch
End 1 Type: Male/Female
End 2 Thread Size: 7/16-24 Inch
End 2 Type: Female
Total Length (In): 13-1/4 Inch

Does anyone know of a shorter hose with the correct fittings for my calipers? Or is it possible to just shorten the hoses I have?

Re: Brake Hose Help

What year is your truck? Is it a 1970 with discs from a 78? On a 1972 1/2 ton the brake hose comes to the front side of the front crossmember and mounts to a bracket that it looks like is missing from your truck.

Re: Brake Hose Help

I don't have the part numbers handy but do a search here on 72 elcamino front brakes hoses. That's what I used, and its the same as the drum brake conversion hoses sold by a few of the venders. They use a 7/16 banjo bolt, 3/8-24 thread, and only 12" long.

Re: Brake Hose Help

I'm referring to the 78 C10 Hoses. They say the fittings are:

End 2 Thread Size: 5/8-18, 3/8-24 Inch
End 2 Type: Male, Female

Not sure what this means? The fittings are a he/she?

Re: Brake Hose Help

I think the 5/8 is the hex size and the 3/8 is the inside thread size.

Re: Brake Hose Help

SIMLPE: Buy the hoses for your year truck and where the hose mounts to the caliper put a new notch for the metal line to set in in the right direction. I just did something similar on my 70 and works great.

Re: Brake Hose Help

Thanks 70chevybb. I will definitely do that. However, my main problem is the fittings are different.

Re: Brake Hose Help

You just make a make a new brake line with the correct fitting I bought two hoses and they were different. Just use the right fitting. Any auto parts store will have them
