Ignitor Electronic Ignition
Has anyone bought and installed one of these in their distributor? I'm wondering if also replaces the rotor and condenser? Was it worth the expense?

I've used Pertronix conversions on a number of projects. It always replaces the condenser along with the points but does not usually replace the rotor. On Fords there is a piece that slips over the breaker cam before the rotor goes on. On GM, because of the upper weights/springs, there is a shutter wheel that attaches to the bottom of the rotor. A little bit more of a pain, but considering how often that gets changed, not a problem. I personally can't think of any better upgrade for the money than that conversion.

Best thing since sliced bread for points type ignition systems
same set on my son's elcamino for 12 year No need to get the new igniter3 the original pertronix works fine for old motors

Thanks guys! I have some birthday money burning a hole in my pocket, and this seemed like a worthy upgrade for my old Fleetside. I'll be getting a new coil to go with it, plus plugs and wires.

I bought an Ignitor II for my 50 GMC 270 engine. It uses lobe sensing technology. No reluctor wheel required. Real easy install. Bought on Amazon.Com. Also bought their coil and new wires, regapped the plugs. Runs great. Definetly worth it. Good luck. Jim

One of the plusses for them along with their usually working great is that if one fails you can pull the unit out of the distributer and stick in the points and condensor you have stashed in the truck and be going again in short order. Meaning you won't be wasting a couple of days in a crappy motel waiting for the brown truck to bring a red label box with parts. that only come from one source. A little trouble shooting and a parts swap and adjustment and you are off to where you were going.

Not required but many will take advantage of the stronger spark capability of the new ignition and increase the plug gap from about .035" to .045" or even 060". Whether this actually improves performance or mileage in an older style engine that doesn't run nearly as lean as the newer EFI engines is up to debate. On a street rod engine with modest pump gas compression, I usually gap at .040" as part of the build.

Google "chevy 235 hei" and start reading about the different later model 250 ci ones that will work with limited mods, maybe an alternative if you do not need the stock look.
