Changing gas tank on r30
I have read the posting about dropping the tank on my r30 but no one gives hints on how to remove the two bracket bolts hiding behind the catylist converter.

Re: Changing gas tank on r30
you can usually get in there with a couple of extensions... I assume you mean the bolts through the frame to those brackets?

Re: Changing gas tank on r30
Thanks for the tip. As you may know I am new to this site but my involvement in vintage sites for my 1958 mga and a slew of vintage snowmobiles, I know the Tremendous help these sites are. My truck was bought new in 1987 by my father and has 90000 original miles.

Are you talking about the two bolts that are at the end of the tank straps? If so then I usually just cut the straps off and buy new ones.

I am talking about the bolts which hold the gas tank bracket to the frame of the truck.

Re: Changing gas tank on r30
The tank support brackets appear to be the same however my difficulty is with the lower two bolts on the front bracket. They are behind and only 1" from the catalytic converter. I have only one remaining and have bought a gear wrench to do the job I hope. One thing for sure I will have one extra bolt when this is back together. Ha!

Re: Changing gas tank on r30
With only 3-4 clicks of the gear wrench and a lot of heat that last bolt lost its battle. Now I have to replace the gas tank straps. To do this do I have to separate the tank bracket by cutting the bracket welds?
