Mcgaughys caliper and pads
Hey all, this is the first time I've ever messed with brake calipers and pads and am not sure if I installed them right. I bought a McGaughy's disc brake conversion kit for my '68, which came with no instructions. The brake pads seem like they're just sitting in there freely and can move around quite a bit. I already put one spindle, disc, caliper and pads together, but I installed just the caliper, pads, and spindle so that you can get a better look at what I'm seeing. Thanks for any help.

Re: Mcgaughys caliper and pads
There are no clips or anything to hold the outer pads...they are basically free floating. The inner pads have spring clips that hold them.

I have two clips like this one that I haven't touched yet. Are these the clips you're referring to?

Re: Mcgaughys caliper and pads
Yes, those are the clips for the inner pads. They snap on the back of of the pads and then the back side of the clip pops in to the caliper piston. There's only one way they will work, so you really can't mess it up. Don't forget to lube all moving parts with a good caliper lube.

Re: Mcgaughys caliper and pads
Heres a thread with a nice diagram of the disc brake components:
