Pedal assemblies? 56 truck
I'm curious as to what pedal assemblies you guys are running in your trucks.
My 56 has the stock long brake pedal and the stock floor mount gas pedal. My truck came with the under floor master cylinder The brake pedal is sticks out about 2" too far for me to drive comfortably and need to do something about it and what have you guys done with the gas pedal when running a modern carbed engine? I'm putting a vortec 350 in this spring and keeping it an auto. Any info would be huge and greatly appreciated. Here's what mine looks like now. I bought this truck as a total project and was just like this when I got it so I'm very UN-familiar with this setup. |

Re: Pedal assemblies? 56 truck
I bought the IDIDIT cable and pedal assy. Install was pretty straight forward. I installed a CPP power brake assy that come with a new adjustable brake pedal

Re: Pedal assemblies? 56 truck
Lowlyfe. As to the pedal height problem there are a couple of ways to solve it depending on which way you build your brake system. I added a duel master cylinder without the booster in the stock location with the stock pedal. It was like you said too high for comfortable driving. What I did was cut the pedal pad off, cut 1.50 in off the arm and welded it back together. That short distance that you have to lift your foot to the pedal made alot of difference. Its now even with clutch pedal and has several inches off the floor when depressed.

Re: Pedal assemblies? 56 truck
truk uses stock brake pedal, obviously no clutch pedal
it has an under floor hydroboost and i cut 3.5'' off the pedal height for my gimpy legs there are many options available to maintain the stock pedal and swing arm you can buy a kit or just fabricate a bracket, my hydroboost has a firewall mounted reservoir

Re: Pedal assemblies? 56 truck
I just recently purchased a pedal setup from a Jeep TJ for my 54. The trans I'm using needs a hydraulic master and I'm planning on going with a hydroboost setup. At the moment it seems like it's going to fit very well. Here's a picture of me holding it in place with one hand on the phone and one on the pedals.
I only spent $25 plus shipping on Ebay. |

Re: Pedal assemblies? 56 truck
I have the CPP setup. It has a few issues that I've had to resolve. I think they should do better with these but, I would still buy it again.

Re: Pedal assemblies? 56 truck
Thanks for the info guys. I think I'll run the under floor master/booster setup and chop my brake pedal. I've got a Camaro clip with front discs and drum rears, I forgot to mention in my original post. Not sure if this would make any difference?
Also, how do the floor mounted gas pedals work? I've always had vehicles with swing arm pedals so im having a hard time seeing how I will adapt it to work with my carbed vortec 350. |

Re: Pedal assemblies? 56 truck
orrieg will post his pic of the stock gas pedal soon
for the brake pedal there is a member on this forum (my crs prevents me for naming him) had the best idea use the stock mc and pedal, gut the mc and cut the back end off, mount new mc behind and run a heim joint between the stock pedal and the new mc of course i saw his post after designing my hydroboost system, one of those 'd'oh' moments

Re: Pedal assemblies? 56 truck
Only if someone gives me a cookie! Here is a pic of my pedal, it came out of a 62 pickup and is similar to 55-57 Tri Fives. I used my stock brake pedal with a bracket assembly that replaced the original mc but kept the geometry. It is attached to hot rod booster and mc, again with my designed brackets based on CCP and similar kits. I moved mine farther back so the fill missed the cab floor brace. I made the adjustable rod between the pedal and booster, details are in the early part of my build thread. MC and proportioning valve are 74 truck parts.
