Re: Valve cover restoration?
Acid dip and a polish would be my first thoughts. Are they steel or alum? And then could paint between the ridges.

Re: Valve cover restoration?
I have the exact same cover, they are good quality, made in Japan for MT. I will watch for suggestions on polishing

Re: Valve cover restoration?
No steel here. Use steel wool first or not?

Re: Valve cover restoration?
I have not seen these covers on a small block since back in the 70's, MT was an American Hero ! He set the bar real high at Bonneville , Drag's and even Indy. Looking forward to getting mine installed soon. How can you polish them with those deep groves in them ?

Re: Valve cover restoration?
I would sand them with 400 grit and work up to 3000 grit. Then polish them.

Re: Valve cover restoration?
Mothers aluminum polish and a polishing ball or cone. You could hit them with 400 or 600 before polish. I had a set of wheels that looked worse and they came out great.

I am going to do a set as well soon. I plan to leave the area between the fins glass beaded finish and polish the high fins and the sides. I will post photos when they are done but it may be a while. Take care, Tom
