Vin History Info
So, i have been thinking about paying someone to look up the vin on my jimmy. My question is, is this worth doing and what kind of info does this give you? I am interested in seeing the history of my vehicle. Have any of you guys done this? If so, what companies did you use? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Vin History Info
It is possible to use the VIN to get data for Canada made trucks (see example here: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...&postcount=168 ) but no records were maintained by GM USA - for US made trucks we are left with details from the SPID, build sheet if present, and sales paperwork/protect-o-plate

Re: Vin History Info
I guess this kinda of came out the wrong way, I'm looking more towards how many owners, where the truck has been. Things like that.

Re: Vin History Info
I think it all depends on the state it was from . Illinois purges records after so many years, I was lucky to have contact info of a previous owner and used the internet to back track and trace the history to new, even scored and old pic of one of mine blazers (only back to 1979 though.)

Re: Vin History Info
I tried a few places but the records only start on the newer vins in the mid 80s. Would be pretty cool if they could do it on carfax but same Problem. No internet back that far so no Real records to Find.

Re: Vin History Info
It would be really cool to know the history or life your truck had... I think that's one of the main reason I like vintage 4x4's. They must have had a lot interesting and exciting adventures over all those years...

Re: Vin History Info
Damned near impossible today in most states. Privacy laws put in place over the past 10-15 years have really put the brakes on divulging previous owner info in title searches. And as stated, many states are now purging records older than 10 years or so.
