What's it worth?? '72 Chevy 3/4 4x4, no engine

I have a chance to buy a '72 K20 (3/4 ton 4x4) truck without engine tranny or transfer case. The truck was originally a big block 2wd but was converted to 4x4 (and done right!). The rear is a Dana 60 with Powr-Lok limited slip. The front is a Dana 44. It is an AC cab also, with tilt wheel. Truck is straight and no rust. Guy will take $800. What do you think?? Thanks.

If it was done right as you say, buy it. Being straight and no rust is a huge plus. You can pick up an NP205 for $200 and then put in what ever engine you want.

Well, I have a 465/205 combo in my shed, so that's not my worry. Also, a friend of mine's dad has a'79 3/4 ton Suburban that he bought new and is selling for $1000. I was thinking of picking that up for it's 454 engine (it only has 80,000 original miles on it) and installing it in the '72. Just not sure as of yet if I should take on another project!!! LOL!!! Thanks for your reply!!

I hear you on that, but that is a pretty good deal, a great deal if it is really rust free. I'd give serious thought before passing on it. I'm not a fan of parting out trucks that are in good shape, but that truck as described has parts worth well over the asking price. Buy it, throw it in the barn and get to it later in life - if it was here rather than in Cali, it would be mine for that price.

Hard to tell w/o pics, but based on your description and the parts you already have, I'd say it's a good enough deal.

Well the only big problem I see is that the title probably says its a 2wd since that is what it was converted from. If you are going to keep it and never sell it you really do not have a problem but if you fix it and try to sell it at a future date you may take a big price hit over the title not saying its a 4wd.

As long as the axles don't need any rebuilding, I'd say it's a sweet deal... you already have a powerplant and t-case, and finding a tranny should be easy...

wouldn't last long if I knew about it...

is the suspension lifted or stock height...???
