Live Auction CUCV

Couple weeks ago went to a live auction near Lancaster, Pa. in farm Country. The draw was railroad artifacts and antique cars. Model As, Model Ts, 1940 Hudson, 1929 Essex, 37 Packard, Frick Steam Tractor, Full size cabboose, lots of smalls AND a CUCV. Auction was filmed for a new series that supposed to come out on Animal planet this winter called "Money Barn". Anyone attending this auction had to sign a waiver. All the "featured items" were filmed for the auction and very last "feature" item was the CUCV, a 1984, that I stole. (got for a good price I mean) So maybe they'll have some footage of this CUCV in the show, they had it running for the auction. Very early CUCV, mfg 10/83. also wound up with some other cool stuff like a cross
buck, antique blacksmith vise, antique station hand cart, more junk lol.

Re: Live Auction CUCV

Cool! Live auctions are the place to buy these if you can find 'em. Since all the fed surplus stuff is auctioned on the web now these CUCV prices skyrocketed. We bought 4 M1008s & 1 M1031 about 5 yrs ago super cheap; went intending to get 1 but couldn't resist. Folks were buying dueces for $200 & driving them off!
If don't already know about Steel Soldiers website check it out...the starter & glowplug relay conversions are a must...have fun with it!!!

This is about #25 for me for CUCVs and there is always some kind of surprise. People on Steelsoldiers helped me with the first one, used to take the TMs to work and read them! Great info.

Re: Live Auction CUCV

Darn things keep following me home, picked up another M1008 CUCV at the Pa. state auction monday. Great undercarraige, new starter, tires, brakes, state inspected, 12 volt conversion, body a little rough but I've seen worse. Could have driven it home. After all the fees $2100. A steal, worth that in parts.

Good buy. They should just keep you on speed dial to see if you want the next one.

X2 on the Doghead starter relay mod. Do it or you'll regret it.

I'm still running the 24v glow plug system. It's really not that complicated just not very tolerant of blown glowplugs. One side benefit is it'll start off the deuce with mostly dead batteries in the CUCV by using a NATO slave cable. It'll crank the Deuce over the same way.

Re: Live Auction CUCV

Both CUCVs that we use daily are the stock 24 volt glow plug/ starter system. Nothing to be afraid of. Maintenance is crucial but we haven't had any problems and have been using the M1028a1 since 2007, currently as a daily driver for my one son.

Re: Live Auction CUCV

And yet another one. (85 M1008) Live auction. One and only bidder, must have been the bad weather. $835 out the door, and the best way ever to load a non running truck without bending the driveshaft.
