57 chevy 3100 transmission
Is the transmission on a 57 considered a synchronized transmission and should I be able to shift easily into first without coming to a complete stop?

Re: 57 chevy 3100 transmission
It is a syncro trans. but 1st gear was not syncro. until 1968. The only way to shift to 1st without stopping is to double clutch.

SM420 and SM435 (later generation) first gear is often referred to as Granny Low. It is most often skipped and folks start out in second, with Low only used for fully loaded vehicles. This trans style was used well into the '80s and Low has never been syncro'd to my knowledge.
