ALDL 160 baud datastream on 86 C10
Hi,
Has anyone ever gotten serial data from 86 Chevy C10 via the ALDL connector? Just bought a OTC monitor from Ebay (great deal) and hooked it up but comes back with "no data". After some investigation, looked at the ALDL connector under the dash. I only have ping A,B,C,D and F. Nothing in "E". According to other documentation, E provides the 160 baud serial data stream and "M" the 8132 datatstream (if present). Bottom row of connector is all empty, and "E" is also not there. Could it be that 86 C10 (California version) doesn't provide any of that data (no serial datastream)? |

To the best of my knowledge, the 86 truck only had spark and mixture control. There is a little box under the dash for that, but I don't think its really a computer. It does not have a serial data stream output.

From all I read, it has an ECM that controls M/C solenoid etc. I also have a fairly large box mounted above glove compartment. Could it be that it has an ECM, just no serial data stream? I can retrieve error codes by shorting pin A and B, but only the "check engine light" flashes errror code. Wondering what pin C,D and F are used for.

That sounds right to me as far as what the box is and what it does. You may be able to google search an image of the 1986 aldl to tell you what it does. It would also be in the 86 factory service manual, if you can find one.
