Re: Short on time, short on funds... "Lola"
Well, it's been awhile. I'm off at school, and I've only been home once so far. I have football games on the weekend, so I don't get home, but heres a few things that the parents have done for me (This includes the mother too) This isn't my moms first rodeo thats for sure! I got a few new parts from GMC Pauls. That new instrument bezel has all of the gauges and such switched over already, and I even through in some blue LED lights for the backlighting in them which I'm excited to see. I've also been repainting all of the old "Custom/10" and "8/350" emblems here at school. I try to take care of as many things as I can while I'm away. The wheels we are sticking with the rallys. They will of course be sandblasted and repainted and probably get a new set of beauty rings on them as well. This morning the truck got its first coat of primer on it thanks to the pops! My mom was pushing him to do it because he wanted it perfect. He thinks he can make it show quality, and I'm not gonna doubt him, I have no problem with that!

Re: Short on time, short on funds... "Lola"
Well, everything changed in the last week. My dad got a call from one of his close friends that has been working in a machine shop for 40 years and has been an avid drag racer as well. Turns out he convinced my dad to go the ls route for the motor. And sure enough, craigslist pops up with a 2004 5.3 engine with harness included, an extra set of heads, computer and everything for 300$! We pulled the trigger and looks like we have a powerplant!

Oh, almost forgot that he has motor mounts as well! It's been a good day to say the least!

Re: Short on time, short on funds... "Lola"
Well, well, well... Went and picked up the motor tonight. I'll have pictures tomorrow hopefully, but turns out we got 3 intakes with it, 2 sets of heads, throttle body, and everything else you can think of. And now the kicker. Guy had a 4l60e/torque converter sitting around out of a 94 truck. He ended up giving that to us for 100$ as well as a brand new flywheel/spacer to hookup to the 5.3. I'm a happy camper right now and can't wait to tear into this. I believe right now the goal is to throw a little more cam into it, new rings, gaskets, have the heads done by a family friend, and maybe new springs. We really cant decide if we should go carbureted or stick with the fuel injection... Any ideas are welcome

Re: Short on time, short on funds... "Lola"
Yeah, we've been lucky so far. The only thing about living up here is the limited number of parts. There's plenty of trucks because everyone has been farming forever, but they are all beat and rusted haha Another thing is I live in a pretty remote area. I dont really have any big cities next to me or anything, so craigslist isnt normally full of parts haha but (knock on wood) hopefully they keep coming up!

Re: Short on time, short on funds... "Lola"
Well, Christmas break has started, and I've 3 weeks to do everything that I can! My dad and I plan on attacking it pretty hard over the next few weeks. The first 3 hours of work resulted in the wood bed getting completely taken out. That was trashed and the bed is now getting dent/rust repair. The plan is to have the inside of the bed painted before I'm back off to school! Also, bought a new lens kit from GMC Paul's website. The 5.3 and heads were sent into the machine shop to get a good cleaning/machining if needed. I think we plan on porting the heads at the moment, throwing a new cam in, and getting a pair of headers.
