I Saved Another One!!!

Very very nice 1970 GMC Sierra Grande LWB. Nothing too exotic option wise, but one of the most solid, straight and rust free trucks that I've ever seen. Would say "unmolested", but has had some engine work done. Came w/receipts, owner's manual and Protectoplate. Not sure if I'll keep it or sell.

Ugh...unable to post pics due to "Your submission could not be processed because a security token was missing."

Re: I Saved Another One!!!

And kind of unique color, also.

Needed another one like I needed another hole in my head, but hard to pass this one up given the condition and provenenance. Body is straight as an arrow, no speaker holes, no "extra" mirror holes drilled in the doors, radio cutout is good; really had too much going for it to let it go. They're getting harder and harder to find these days that some one hasn't torn apart w/the intention of "restoring" or turning into "shortbed" and winding up w/a pile of parts that was once a perfectly good truck. Looking at another 70 GMC Sierra Grande 3/4 ton here in OK that someone dismantled and has now lost interest. It's nothing now except a pile of parts.

Nice! All I ever seen to find are the ones held together with rust. Maybe I need to get out your way

Re: I Saved Another One!!!

Bill,

It may have something to do w/the part of the country you're from. Am from MA originally and came to OK courtesy of US Army back in 1982. It is now home after 28 years in the Army. I know what road salt will do to a car. Here in my little part of the world, there's probably 25 69-72s sitting around (not counting mine) w/in 5 miles of my house. All in various conditions. Some, I've been trying to buy for years and sadly watch them deteriorate.

Re: I Saved Another One!!!

Nice truck! What's going on in the door jamb? Looks like the steel is folded in front of the rocker, near the bottom door hinge, someone slam something in the door?
Either way that a very nice truck. Congrats!

Very nice original GMC. It's getting harder to find one of these trucks that hasn't been butchered up.

Re: I Saved Another One!!!

All,

Thanks.

Lanman: Thanks for the inspirational picture.

AirSpeed: No issues w/the door jamb, may be a shadow/camera angle, not sure, but there is no damage. Door shuts w/out issue. Looks the same on pass side.

Ho70: Interesting thought, I feel the same way and even more so when someone does a great job redoing one. It's the hackers that just drive me nuts. Not sure what it is, but its just a good thing to do, saving an old truck; Ford, Chevy, Dodge...doesn't matter.

Big Dog: Post a pic of yours, if you have one.

Was out in the barn last night trying to decide what I should do.....they're only original once and despite my desire to make it look like the one in Lanman's pic, I may just redo the interior and leave it alone.

Re: I Saved Another One!!!

Big Dog,
Am surprised you didn't grab the one I bought...it was in Sherman. Had a good joke w/the guy I bought the truck from using Lanman's picture. Sent it to him saying that I had been doing a lot of work to it. He was amazed, then I told him the truth. We both got a good laugh.

Still not sure what I'm going to do w/mine. I'm not comfortable w/the "patina" look, but have plenty of trucks that sparkle and shine, so I may just keep this one like it is and call it my "survivor".

Nice find, original survivors seem to be the most collectable vehicles out there. There always more interesting and authentic. I agree, the 69-70 era had some unique neat colors.

Re: I Saved Another One!!!

Did a lot of buffing/waxing on the cab interior. Amazing the amount of grime that builds up over the course of 44 years and how good the paint looks after all that nastiness is buffed off.
