Does anybody know?

If my Offenhouser intake and split exhaust manifolds currently on my 292 6 cylinder will fit a 250 6 cylinder or any other displacement inline 6?

Re: Does anybody know?

That is great news. I have been told that the 250 will get way better mileage.

Re: Does anybody know?

It might!!
Likely the same though!
Swapping to a 250 you need different power steering and a/c brackets.
If your 292 is still running good you won't gain a thing.
Optimize your timing first.
What distributor are you using and what's your initial timing set at?

Re: Does anybody know?

Haven't checked timing yet. It has an HEI distributor. So far the compression seems very low and the throttle linkage doesn't allow for wide open throttle. I just got it and am still trying to figure it all out.

I drove it 5 hours home from the purchase with out any major issues but it didn't seem to have much power. The compression is only 85 psi at the highest and 57 psi on the lowest.

It will probably need some head work. I was hoping all was good .

Re: Does anybody know?

How did you check the compression?
Did you hold the carb wide open while you did it?
Are you sure it's a 292?
You could rotate the carb around and put the linkage at the front and use a bellcrank to get it to open completely.

Re: Does anybody know?

Carb wide open. Squirted oil in all cylinders to see if it went up and none did. Then running compression showed lower at idle and higher at rpm. That indicates exhaust valve problems.

Re: Does anybody know?

Cheaper to put a rebuilt head on it then.
