Headlight connectors

I assume that folks have replaced their corroded old plugs going to some of their lights. I'm wondering if you've been able to find the small female ends that go inside the plastic plug for the headlight connection? They look similar to a regular 1/4" female spade plug, but obviously a little different so they lock properly into the plastic plug.

Been looking for a box of them so I can start making replacements, but haven't been able to find them.

Re: Headlight connectors

Thanks - I've been staying away from LMC recently, so I didn't even check to see what they had. I was hoping to just be able to find the internal connectors for each wire and not have to order anything - just not sure where to find them locally or what the proper name is to ask.

Should be something like this I think -

Re: Headlight connectors

The old sealed beams use an H4 pattern plug. They may be Packard 56 terminals like your picture or they might be larger like you'd find in an F7 ISO relay socket. I've never looked.
These guys sell H4 headlamp plugs and terminals. http://www.cycleterminal.com/headlight-connectors.html

Napa has a good selection of OEM terminals. Ask their salesperson for the book on rack and thumb through it. Above terminal looks like the one you pictured.

I have ordered from these guys and the parts worked great, someone had cut off the headlight connector on my truck and they had all of the parts.

Re: Headlight connectors

Packard 59 terminals were commonly used in many GM sealed beam headlight connectors. They're basically a larger version of the Packard 56 terminals and are available at NAPA as part # NW725448.

Re: Headlight connectors

I couldn't find the terminals, but I checked napa today and they did have the connectors, but they didn't seem great - the quality wasn't there. It made me think that my local truck store might have the connectors, so I checked there too. I found some H4/9003 connectors that looked great. Heavy enough wire, sealed plugs and some nice wire loom on there too. It was a good find.

Re: Headlight connectors

I use Delphi 59-series terminals...I stock 14-16ga and 10-12ga female versions for my headlight harnesses. Napa carries a cheap version of them which aren't as stout as OEM Delphi. I'd still keep an eye on your headlight connectors you chose however-Dorman is Chinese made and the wiring is more brittle as is the insulation which is not j1128 spec'd which means its not rated for under hood use. Why they sell that stuff I have no idea.

With relay power you'll be able to get more voltage out of those lights and the first area to watch is the wiring-in particular the grounds-GM used heavy gauge 1/4" 14ga grounding rings on the radiator support so if you replaced them, hopefully you used a similar type.

In the attached pic is a 10-12ga version of the type of grounding ring I'm referring to.
