I spotted this at a Pick-n-Pull in SLC. I was wondering if it would be worth pulling out of the truck. I don't have a use for it myself. The picture is terrible I know. It is in a 69-70 Chevrolet 1 ton.

I guess it would depend on how much you'd have to pay, and how much you could sell it for later.

btw, I need to head to SLC tomorrow to find a drive shaft. Which pick-a-parts are worth stopping at? The only one I know of is A-1 on 2100 S.

The price for an overdrive unit on their web site is $35.99. This one is at the Tear-A-Part on Redwood Road. Good luck on the drive shaft. I have yet to see one that has not been destroyed by the loader.

The only one currently is the Ranger overdrive built by Advance Adapters. May be an older version

Nice score at the part yard! Did you snag the shifter and the shift boot? Looks like a period correct advance adaptor. Can you confirm it is an overdrive. It looks cast iron the current available ones are aluminium. Good luck with futrue part hunting, Bruce

You know what's weird? Just skimming through the photos I started to smell old grease and wrecking yard smells. The brain is funny.

Other than one down at the Oregon border I've never found a decent (or any) yard that carries anything useful around Seattle. If someone knows of a yard in the area that's not a 4 hour drive and has trucks, please let me know!

Budget Truck Wrecking in Auburn quite often has a good number of our years of trucks. sometimes they have a bunch and other times just a few.
Also I would check with Binford Wrecking in Auburn.

That's a good point.... The same company makes an underdrive version as well... It was a 1 ton... Could be an under drive unit.

I know this is an older thread, but I couldn't help but respond

I'm putting in the new version in my build. It is the overdrive setup. I can't wait to get it all done with 3 sticks sticking through the floorboard.

MIke,
Paul was kind enough to pull,package and send this to me. Alright, we did agree on a fair price. I have not installed it yet. I had a fatal cam lobe failure despite break-in and good oil. I can not prove but I believe it was improperly hardened by comp cams. I have a Rockwell T-221 case. So the case shifter is on the drivers side of the tranny. I have not quite figured out the right solution. Definately going to have to move the case shifter forward. What set-up do you have? I assume you will have to move the cross member and shorten/lengthen the driveshafts. Bruce

I also have the T-221 tcase in mine. My entire unit adds 7-1/2" to the length, so I ended up moving my engine forward 2" and the rear cross member back 5-1/2". For the tcase shifter, I built a plate for the two mounting holes on the passenger side of the transmission, and I'm in the process of building a linkage to connect that to the existing lever on the tcase. Overall, this was a fairly easy installation, except for the troubles with relocating my z bar for the mechanical clutch assembly that I still plan on running. I have some pics of my setup in my build thread that may give you some ideas.
