Vin and title

Met a gentleman at a car show, started talking and he said he needed a vin and title for his 67, told him I had one. He said he would call me, a month went by and he called. I feel nervous about selling a vin and title, he wants me to mail it to him after he sends me the $$$. Would you do it?

Is the title still in your name?

In WA state it is legal to sell the vehicle or what remains of it as long as you properly transfer the title. The seller and buyer are both required to transfer the title within 15 days. It is important for the PO to do this so his name is removed from the title even if the new owner does not re-register the vehicle. The PO could end up with the vehicle back, what remains of it, or the towing bills once it has been abandoned and towed. He could also end up with a ton of parking tickets. If you have sold or scrapped all of the vehicle and all that remains are the door post, vin plate and a piece of the frame you can sell them without a problem. Call you DMV and ask the what-if questions...they really do want to help...same with the police if you just ask.

Might want to just sell him the part of the cab that has the vin plate on it and give him the title with it. No need to remove the vin tag.
