Stepside Rear Bumper Brackets

So I'm a month away from my son's 16th birthday and trying to finish up our 84 GMC stepside project. I'm working on the bed and realized that I don't have the rear bumper brackets. Check LMC and they are out of stock. I've checked a couple of online places and they are pricey (180 to 200 bucks a set) and I've never dealt with the companies I've found.

So, bottom line question, anybody have good leads on a company that sells these? If they are pricey, I guess I'll have to bite the bullet, but I wanted some advice from those of you in the know.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Stepside Rear Bumper Brackets

Thanks Rusty, I may have to do that. I was hoping not to have to go on a chase for the brackets though, there don't seem to be a lot of stepsides salvaged in my area. Thanks for the reply.

Re: Stepside Rear Bumper Brackets

So far no luck on Ebay Jonny. And the few places I've contact don't have them in stock even though they have them on their website.

I'm starting to get nervous.

Re: Stepside Rear Bumper Brackets

I bought mine from a member on this forum. Keep an eye on the parts section as they show up every now and then. Seems like when I bought them I remember reading that either the 73-87 stepside bumper or brackets or both was the same as the 67-72 trucks??? If you can verify that's true maybe it will expand your options a little.

I also remember seeing them in the LMC catalog and thinking they were crazy expensive.

Re: Stepside Rear Bumper Brackets

Does anyone know the GM part number for them? I think the NOS fleetside sport bumper I bought is actually for a stepside and I need to figure out if the brackets are as well. I may sell the bumper and brackets if they both end up being for a stepside as I dont see myself having any use for them in the future.

It's easy to tell them apart. The fleetside sport bumper has two rows of mounting bolts (top and bottom), and the stepside bumper has one row of mounting bolts.

Re: Stepside Rear Bumper Brackets

So the brackets will only have 1 hole on the bumper mounting side? The bumper I have is definitely for a stepside at least, I'll have to go out to the garage and look at the brackets.

Re: Stepside Rear Bumper Brackets

It's definitely all stepside stuff, I don't know what it's all worth or if it's smart to split it up at this point.

It's somewhat unfortunate considering what I went through to pick it up and I sold the new aftermarket fleetside sport bumper brackets I had thinking I had this stuff to use.

Excuse my messy workbench I have too many projects going on at once.

Re: Stepside Rear Bumper Brackets

They do show up pretty often in the classifieds here. They usually run $100-125 a set for used. We don't have many stepsides here either but they do show up.

Re: Stepside Rear Bumper Brackets

Just an FYI for people looking for these brackets. If you do not care that they are OEM brackets, you can order the brackets for a 67-72 stepside (the rear bumper is the same thru '87 for the step side). With a little bit of modification they work fine. I did that on the '82 I built for Korbin. It is in my link below..."Sunburn"

Unfortunatly there are not any good pictures of what we did to make them work. Short story is the outer brackets work without any changes, the inners require some cutting on the end that attaches to the frame to make them fit/work correctly.

Re: Stepside Rear Bumper Brackets

Thanks everybody, I did get a set from a member of this forum, but I'm sure others will be searching as well.

I've been amazed at how many stepside parts are so hard to find!

Re: Stepside Rear Bumper Brackets

The fuel filler hose for a stepside is impossible to find. I had to "make" something for mine.
