C40 C50 C60 C70 front axle width's
Anyone have spec's on 84-89 front axle width's or trac for C40 C50 C60...
Trying to find a disk brake replacement axle for my 67 C50 thinking that a 80's will work but I need specs to be sure. Thanks

You may want to look over on the Stovebolt.com site. Someone there is making a kit for 1-1/2 and 2 ton trucks. Don't know if it will work for you or not

Re: C40 C50 C60 C70 front axle width's
Spring perches I believe are the same. I would like flange to flange (where the wheel mounts) an exact measurement is difficult I know just closest inch will do.
Thanks!! Dave Oh, what bolt pattern is yours. And the answer to your Too many Chevy's? the answer is a big NO!

It looks like 1985 to 1993 P30 GM Stepvans have I beam Spindles that will fit with a little mod. Check link above. You keep your axle and use a sleeve inserted into the P30 Spindle and then use your standard king pin kit. Now I am looking for P30 front axle! And they are REALLY HARD TO FIND.

Re: C40 C50 C60 C70 front axle width's
Well it was not 84"'s more like 89"'s.
And it's a Freighliner not a Kodiak but both are Rockwell axles and the calipers are the same. I got it for 300 with semi style 10 lug hubs I am going to cut it down by taking 10"s out of the center, weld it back together and bolt a 1/2" plate on it drilling it for the correct spring width.

Re: C40 C50 C60 C70 front axle width's
Anymore info on the projects mentioned here? I'm just contemplating what I'm going to do with my '63 Bread van. I either swap in 1-ton suspension from an '80 2wd & use adapters for my 24" alcoas or I swap in another bigrig axle & frontend to get the newer 10-bolt. From what I gather my 5/10 lug split is different pattern than the budd wheels these days & Accuride doesn't make the wheels from the '80s that fit anymore. P30s come with then but hard to find. Also need to get the brakes working first to drive it around instead of towing it every where lol

I ended up using a med size freightliner front axle (Eaton) I cut 10" out of the center of the axle (I used a metal cutoff saw) I bolted a 1/2 plate to the top of the axle using the existing holes and then welding it back together. The rear is 10 lug Kodiak but all most any will do. I used the entire frame and welded it to the old C50 frame. PM me if you want more info. Super super looking van by the way. You just don't see them like that anymore.

Re: C40 C50 C60 C70 front axle width's
That truck is badass! I need a total width tire-tire of 84" if I remember correctly so I can tuck the tires inside the body. Either way the rear end will need to be narrow & I think frontend also at this point. Which brake system are you using then up front? The Freightliner or converting something else?
I know some guys are converting bus brakes over to get disks up front & to have available parts. I really just want to get my 24" alcoas on it & drive it as a daily lol

Re: C40 C50 C60 C70 front axle width's
The 98 front Freightliner axle calipers ended up being the exact same as the rear 98 Topkick. They are all dual 2.88 piston calipers.
Autozone and Rockauto has replacements

Re: C40 C50 C60 C70 front axle width's
My over all axle width had to be in the 80" area so you would cut only 6 out of the center of a Topkick 6500 (10lug) or Freightliner.

Re: C40 C50 C60 C70 front axle width's
I checked & the Topkick has a smaller 10-lug pattern from what I can tell. I've got 10-lug Budds off a Pete. What rims you using?

Re: C40 C50 C60 C70 front axle width's
Some older Topkicks do have an small 10 but newer 90's (usally 6500 and up have standard semi hub centric 285.75mm bolt circle. I am using standard Alcoa semi rims in front and Super singles in back. 275x70x22.5 in front and 445x50x22.5 in back.

Re: C40 C50 C60 C70 front axle width's
Ok thanks good to know. Guess I'll keep an eye out for one then as I'd like to end up with 4whl disk if possible. Found a few complete trucks for cheap so may buy an entire one then part it out. Make it easier to have everything but I'm lacking room for 2 semis lol

Re: C40 C50 C60 C70 front axle width's
If you can find a 90's TopKick 6500 you can use both axles. Just make sure they are juice brakes.

Re: C40 C50 C60 C70 front axle width's
I got my brakes done.
All new lines front to rear. I used 2001 Chevy 3500 booster bolted directly to the firewall like the original with a 92 Topkick Master cyl. I had to re-drill the firewall to a smaller 4 bolt circle but it was pretty easy (not real pretty but easy). I made an adapter to lengthen the booster rod. Bled them and I have crazy stopping power. Four 15" rotors with dual 2.88" pistons calipers at each wheel. I was going to have a proportioning valve going to the rear but decided to try it without one. I having slammed on it yet but so far feels good.
