Need a new floor jack
I took my floor jack to the shop at work. I need one for my shop at home. I would like an aluminum one, it ends up going into the back of the truck a fair amount and that steel floor jack is a challenge to get into and out of the truck.
The last floor jack I bought (and only one I have ever bought) was purchased 19 years ago. I would like to buy another that I can keep basically forever. I am leaning toward this one here: http://www.northerntool.com/shop/too...3773_200413773 Any thoughts? Recommendations on jacks?

Sub'd for info. DO NOT waste your money on the aluminum jack from Sam's club... I wasted money on one a few years back... It leaked within a few months and never performed the way I thought it should.

Re: Need a new floor jack
Good luck. I figure it's gonna be tough to find a quality product that will last these days. seems the market is flooded with cheap models from across the water, designed to get your money and not much else. You might want to look at Grainger's, or another industrial supplier, to see if you can find a model that will give you the quality you want.
Edit: Now that I looked at it, that Northern you posted might fit the bill, looks pretty sturdy to me

Re: Need a new floor jack
Been happy with my Sears SUV high lift jack, it is steel but put in handle, jack it up a bit and its much easier to pick up n move then to bend all the way over to get it.

Re: Need a new floor jack
i bought a cheap aluminium jack from harbor freight about 10years ago for the lower clearance and light weight and surprisingly it has never given me a problem and i now use it as my primary jack due to the liught weight and easy to use features compared to the heavyweight older one i have

Re: Need a new floor jack
I have 2 HF jacks, both are the aluminum race jack, one smaller and one is the HD one.
Mine has lasted over 5 years for $104, my fathers lasted 6.5 up until this winter when it finally gave up the ghost. Technically, you can get seals from a hydraulic supply place and rebuild the pistons for cheap, but at 5 years a crack, I'll just buy a new one.

Re: Need a new floor jack
I also have the lighter weight one from HF. It has seen some pretty heavy duty use over the last two years and still going strong. Want to get the next size up, as well. If you do get one from there, wait until you get a coupon, which are in just about every auto magazine on the rack.

Re: Need a new floor jack
I think most of the bigger steel floor jacks are 100 lbs. +

Re: Need a new floor jack
^^The larger steel ones, like the "low clearance" jack, are heavy as all hell. The steel one actually does offer a smaller point of entry under the car, if your bagged.

Re: Need a new floor jack
my next jack will be aluminum and it will be the fast lift type. Im sick of moving my 1000 pounder and then jacking like a kook to lift the car.
air power on my next cherry picker too. |

Re: Need a new floor jack
Are the HE ones tall enough to get a c10 off the ground from the frame? I'm going to put lowering springs on my 64 and need a jack to lift my truck.

Re: Need a new floor jack
If you mean HF ( Harbor Freight ) yes they are big enough and work excellent.

Re: Need a new floor jack
I don't have any recommendations, but I continually wish mine was a lower profile for fitting under A-arm crossmembers on low cars, so that is something to consider when purchasing a new jack.
