Re: Patina...

I personally prefer patina it has character that something painted just doesn't. I also build my vehicles to drive so it makes sense to me. My truck has a 5.3 built ls, tremec tko posi rear, accuair, ride tech suspension, all new interior, raised oak floor, ect. It's a show truck minus the paint but it also gets driven daily. My 54 210 is next in line and I actually paid more to get this patina car than one with perfect paint.

Re: Patina...

I have had 2 different running driving trucks rebuilt to the point of primer in my life... both times I was kind of thinking it was the best paint job in the world.
A) you could easily touch up a paint chip.
B) seemed like a pretty good thief deterrent
C) sold both of them to random people, one to a guy at a swap meet parking lot in Mesquite TX about 1994 and the other was a guy that pulled me over in Lewisville TX in about 1991

Re: Patina...

I think everybody had good points, some of them I never knew. Thumbing your nose at excess and conspicuous consumption. I like to think of it like a pair of old shoes that are broken in just right. Old blue jeans, just cool and it's like camo; no two are the same no matter how you try.

Re: Patina...

I like the stress free finish. A really nice paint job is a lot of work and worry I'm happy to do with out. This will work for me, I just don't know what to do about the seams from shorting the bed

Re: Patina...

I think that "no two are the same" sums it up for me. Why spend 9k on a black paint job when any schmo with money can do it. Patina is one of a kind....now painted patina is for posers.

Re: Patina...

I saw a new body Camaro at Super Chevy in Denver a few years ago that was wrapped with a patina'd rusty scratched look. Sure... he could just pull it off whenever he wanted,
But a brand new Camaro with a Patina'd wrap just looked..... well... wrong.

I think this was it...

No that one is not it... the one I saw was a wrap. the poor guy was standing there an asked me what I thought of it, then told me it was a wrap.

Re: Patina...

its good and bad, it get trucks on the road instead of rotting away in yards, but also people are way over pricing junk too.

Re: Patina...

My 72 SWB has a crappy white Earl Scheib and rattle can job over the original Hugger Orange. They didn't even scuff it

I am going to carefully remove the white to get to the original. I am so hoping I don't have to paint it. Per above, anyone can go and get a repaint but it's only original and worn once!

I completely agree with this. That is why I think these original finish trucks are so special.

Re: Patina...

Keeping the Patina on this one. Maybe a clear coat over it.

Re: Patina...

Maybe it's me, but I'm not comfortable with the present trend of a clear coat over a rusted finish. It smacks against all I've learned about paint preparation and durability of a non- pigmented clear finish.
IMHO, I don't think the cars that have this done to them will hold up in the near future and most likely will have bigger finish problems than if left alone...again, my opinion.

Cool Re: Patina...

When I first joined the board it seemed to be pretty equal, didn't matter wether you had a show truck, daily driver, project, work truck, if it was stock, lowered, dropped, slammed, or lifted, all that matter was that you share the same hobby and love for the c/k generation of trucks and for us on this side the love for 67-72's. Now I mean no disrespect to this site, but these days if your truck isn't laying rockers, doesn't have an LS or fuel injection, patina or a actual nice paint job then you basically don't belong in the big c/k family. Now I for one like the LS swapped trucks or even trucks that have fuel injection, I even like trucks that are laid out on PB suspension, I completely understand why people do it and it is a very very nice setup with excellent quality parts! And the patina thing is very cool to me as every original patina job is one off and not man made, and who doesn't like a nice beautiful paint job? But I still appreciate and original survivor truck or a static dropped truck and the more hot rod influenced trucks as well as the k10/20/30's. But with Facebook and all these other social media sites around this board has taken a hit.

Re: Patina...

Hhmm.... I like most all trucks. Dropped. Patina. Show quality paint. Stock resto. OE survivor. Lifted 4x4.

About the only thing I don't care for is trucks that have so many 'theme's' driving the build they're too busy or one's that have every doo-dad from Pep Boys used as an upgrade (those lame blue-ish tinted lights on a 67-72.... Uhmm, no thanks).
