truck 4 speed question. Does M20 mean M20?

I have purchased a 68 Fleetside. I'm confused at the M20 on the SPID. Does it mean Muncie wide ratio or is it a granny gear?

It is the granny low muncie sm465. The spid on mine also says m20. That's just the way chevy did it I guess. The m20, m21 and the m22 muncies never came in our trucks.

Ah 72c10_longstep, another fellow Canuck. Founded the truck in Lamont County. Oshawa truck 307, 4speed, Black with red guts, untouched. Radio delete, hub caps. A "Man" truck, manual steering, manual brakes, manual windows, manual transmission.

As you have discovered, RPO codes get reused across different model years and different vehicle platforms.

M20 means wide ratio 4 speed. Same thing it meant in the cars. Only difference is it refers to what was available in the platform.

Re: truck 4 speed question. Does M20 mean M20?

M20 is the RPO code, not the transmission model #, just like an automatic is a TH350 or TH400, not an M49
