American Autowire install tips thread.
I'm installing an AAW classic update harness and thought I would post some tips as I go.
Those of you that have done this already please feel free to add any tips you found while doing your install. Today I was installing the dash harness and came to the part where they want you to cut off your signal switch wire connector and add a new connector included in the kit. Some models don't require this but our trucks do. So i was looking at it and thought why not just remove the terminals from the old connector and slide them into the new connector. Worked like a charm. Basically you just push in on the connector and slip a small awl into the side of the connector to release the tang that holds it in, and then pull it out. You may have to bend the little tang back out a bit when you insert it into the new plastic connector to get it to hold. Sorry for the crappy cell phone pic of me putting the terminals into the new connector, I was hoping you could see the little tang I'm talking about. It is pretty easy to do.

The wire colors match the female connector in the kit pretty hard to mess up unless those beers are many.

Re: American Autowire install tips thread.
Be sure to solder the AAW connectors and use shrink tubing after. Unless you are using a professional crimper. Not that they might not hold, just so you will not have to question later if you have electrical issues.
These trucks are not the softest riding things.

Re: American Autowire install tips thread.
Make sure to keep thT plug if you ever replace the switch i installed a tilt column that had a straight plug would not fit into the plug on harness had to swap the plug.
Also i solidered ever crimp i did. Also if you plan on hauling a tailer get you a normal 4 pin straight wiring kit and and wire it in when you do the rear light harness
