Fixing to order windshield rubber need advise.
Ok yall cab will be back from paint and body shortly and I need to order front and rear gaskets for windshield and rear window my truck is a Cheyenne has the chrome and its a 71. I hear horror stories about the trim coming back out and just being a pain. Planned on precision rubber but should I keep chrome or go no chrome? I really like it and have glass guys that know what they are doing just don't want a problem later. What yall think?

Re: Fixing to order windshield rubber need advise.
Check out the Precision site, they have an installation video on our truck...it has the metal trim. I've read where it has taken guys a few or more attempts to install new seals and trim. I did mine, however without trim.
Hope this helps

Re: Fixing to order windshield rubber need advise.
I did the gasket with trim in mine last time myself. I had my son and daughter both helping with holding it and keeping the trim in position. I took my time and it went in pretty good. I had to start over a few times but over all it was OK.
The first mistake I made was I tried to put the bottom in first to keep the weight off everyone. It didn't work very well. We pulled it back out and started at the top and worked it to the bottom. The top corners are the hardest part to get to seat right but with the plastic knifes it's a lot better. You need rope to go inside gasket, tape to help keep trim in place and a couple of the plastic knifes and if you have some picks they would help also to install it with. They make it much easier and some black sealer for the top and bottom corners.

Re: Fixing to order windshield rubber need advise.
I used to install autoglass for a living. The only time I've seen trim pop out later on, is when a hack had trimmed the lip that locks it in place in the gasket off, because they were too lazy to do it right. It is diffucult to install one of these windshields, but if done right, you won't have any issues with the trim coming out. Hope that helps. Oh yeah, one more thing- lube the heck out of the gasket with glass cleaner, I personally use Sprayway, you can pick it up at Wally world. Blue and white can.

Re: Fixing to order windshield rubber need advise.
Use OEM stainless trim with a Precision gasket and it will be an easy install. Use repro trim and it will be a painful, expensive, and unsuccessful endeavor. See my experience here: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=484773

Re: Fixing to order windshield rubber need advise.
Thanks for the advise guys. I have my factory trim in perfect shape so I'll just order the rubber and I have a couple older gentleman that have been installing glass since like the beginning of time to stick the windows back in so fingers crossed all will be good.
