Charcoal Canister Removal Question

Can any one explain the charcoal canister removal procedure. I know you will need a vented gas cap, but what about the vacuum ports on the carb. I read the canister goes bad over time, can you substitute one from a later model GM truck ? This is all aimed at eliminating a vacuum leak on my 350 with factory intake and original Quadrajet......

Re: Charcoal Canister Removal Question

Isn't the canister just a controlled "leak" anyway, and won't a vented tank condense more moisture into the fuel than a closed system? Inquiring minds want to know, so those of you with knowledge please share.....

Re: Charcoal Canister Removal Question

My dad's truck ran just fine for 20 years with the canister unplugged and the hose simply taped shut.

Agreed, 3 trucks I've had with canisters were disconnected long before I got them, never an issue. Honestly couldn't even tell you what it was for up until a couple of years ago.

Re: Charcoal Canister Removal Question

If you just disconect the hoses to the canister no vented cap is required

Re: Charcoal Canister Removal Question

Canister purge is not such a bad thing. I would buy a new canister and be done with it.
