Timing and idle after fan install
Would the drag on an engine be significantly different timing wise after replacing a direct drive fan with a clutch fan? I've had a slight miss since replacing and was fiddling with the idle and have now lost my baseline settings. I had a flex fan with a missing blade and a cobbled up shroud on a '72 350 block in a '71 GMC truck with a long water pump. Replaced with a clutch and fan setup and trimmed a replacement shroud to clear the assembly.
How many (full) turns should I start on the cold idle screw under the choke pull off? And am I thinking properly by going three (full) turns out on the idle mixture screws on the Quadrajet before trying to get the timing to 33-36 total @ 2800-3000 rpm? I have a dial back light and a vacuum gauge. thx edit: Divorced choke on a Franken carb from a 85 Caddy, the replacement bent coat hanger rod has been working OK for a few months. Proper Edelbrock split bore intake as well.
