Stock suspension/frame ID question

I have a parts truck that I may end up fixing up as a work truck and was teyong to figure out what year the frame is. The cab is a 68, but the frame is a leaf spring rear with 4 wheel drums. My other 68 truck has trailing arms with 4 wheel drums. Is this an older frame?

Re: Stock suspension/frame ID question

67-72 trucks were available with either leaf or coil rear suspension. Many say GMC had leaf springs standard and Chevys had coils as standard equipment but either could be ordered. Look on the top of the driver side frame rail near the steering gear box for a series of numbers stamped on the frame like 8Z123456 (8=1968,Z=Fremont CA assembly,123456= assembly sequence and vin. Another example; 7A123456 (7=1967,A=Atlanta GA, 123456....).

Re: Stock suspension/frame ID question

Need to check for the frame VIN, usually eight digits its stamped up by the steering box most of the time.
Base coils or optional leafs were offered concurrently on C10-C20s 67-72. Four wheel drums were used from 67-70.

Re: Stock suspension/frame ID question

Ok just checked. Between the motor mount and steering box is 8b2112. I know that's six digits but it's all I see. Any where else I should check?

Re: Stock suspension/frame ID question

That would be a 68 Baltimore assembled frame. It should match up with the VIN. Probably C _ 148B2112 _ _
