Turn Signals

Hello, I just replaced the turn signal switch in my 67 C/10 pickup. Previously nothing worked. when I hit the brake pedal, it would blow the fuse. now the emergency flashers work, brake lights work as well as the driving lights but no turn signals. I'm trying all of this with out installing the steering wheel. Do I need the steering wheel installed for the turn signals to work?

Couldn't hurt to try a new one, they're cheap.
If the T/S Sw is installed and plugged in and you have a Lever on it you should be able to test the turn signals. Probably best to test it for fit and function with a wheel, too. If it honks full-time, uncontrollably, then you have a contact problem. [Don't ask me how I know.]
On the '67s (only) the Parking lights go off when the Headlights come on. * They should blink with Hazard, Left and Right Turn functions.

*This is normal. The Feds made the auto industry comply with a whole bunch of safety regulations in 1968.

I plugged my tester in where the relay goes. I have voltage when I hit the turn signal lever.

How good are the bulbs at the Park
lights and Tail lights?

Just to clarify, there is no turn signal relay. There is a flasher that has 2 connections. It works by heat (bimetalic strip) generated by current. Relays have 3 or more connections.
You can swap the 4 way flasher w/ the turn signal flasher to test.

OK, the bulbs are good. So does it blink on the proper side [front and back ] when you click the signal lever?
And are the Hazard and Turn Signal Flashers working in the Hazard circuit?
Do you have a hot 12VDC on the socket side of each lamp with T/S Sw selected?

Bulbs work fine in the front,rear and dash of the flasher circuit. With the turn signal, nothing. No signal lights at the front or rear of the truck or on the dash.

I'm not sure where your problem lies (front or rear), but I actually fixed my '70 right turn signal (it was not working after re-wiring the rear lights) by swopping the two signal cables leading to the bulb. I think it has to do with the resistance of the specific element within the bulb that determines the flashing. I hope you get it fixed.

Hello all, I'd like to thank all for the help. The problem was the turn signal flasher. After replacing the turn signal harness, I wasn't sure where to start. I thought maybe I had pinched a wire or something. Turns out it was very simple. Thanks. It's nice to have this forum to ask for help or to help others.
