Factory 1960 Apache matching #s engine and automatic trans?

I want to tell my horrible experience and make it short fellas...My 9 yr build was involved in an accident. Me and the wifey were okay and I believe my truck saved our lives because it could of been worse... 17 yr old kit t boned my truck at 50mph and the insurance co. totaled it and compensated me for the property damage. I retained my truck because of too much sweat, tears and sentimental value with my girls..

Went on a road trip (7 hrs one way) and found me a donor truck for parts..
Truck has history with a U.S. Air force base and 1 owner. The seller says it has a matching #s 6 cylinder engine and factory automatic. How do I verify this? Is this a rare option because I've been around these trucks all my life and never seen one especially early 60s 60-63? Killer pantina and perfect grill. I don't have the heart to tear this truck apart but have no interest in restoring her!! What do you fellas think? Like to hear some opinions....

Re: Factory 1960 Apache matching #s engine and automatic trans?

is there a plaque on the glove box with the engine # and also the serial #?
most military trucks had something on the glove box, with some of the #"s

but as far as I know gm was not playing the # game on engines this early..
did he show you where he saw the matching #'s , because it doesn't look like that engine has been cleaned up in years....

by reading this thread I just found out the auto 6 cylinders used side mounts... I think.
The gmc was a v6, so that's why his had side mounts, but if your powerglide uses a tailshaft mount , that would be why the engine uses the side mounts.....

Early factory auto tranny trucks came with those tower mounts on the crossmember. Oops I guess that what Jon just said. I guess I'm too tired to read right. Damn, I guess i should go to bed., weekends are too short. Sorry about your truck, at least nobody was seriously hurt.

Jonz you are correct! The link Markeb01 posted is the same set up for the 60 automatic pics.. My father had a 66 GMC (which I learned to drive in) with the 305 (V-6) I know of the V-8 side motor mounts also as you mentioned. I took some late pics..not as sharp but here it is..

I hate to see the pics of your wrecked truck, but the new one looks awesome. If it were me, I would get it dialed in mechanically, then do a 100% top-to-bottom degrease and cleanup, CLR the body and shoot it in clear to preserve it. And then, drive the crap out of it.

I love the patina'd trucks, but I like 'em better when the surface rust is removed and the paint looks nicely worn but spotlessly clean. I'm weird that way.......
