Nice C10 long beds getting harder to find?
It's been a while since I really just paid attention to long beds other than the K30 regular cab dually trucks that I have been into for the last few years. I was always a short bed guy which I am in the middle of a rebuild on my 85. Then it was K30's which I have one of those now that is a keeper. So now I thought I would look for a nice 85-87 C10 long bed for a daily driver.
In my search to start looking I was kind of in awe that there are so few that are still kept in decent shape. I like the factory two tone painted trucks so that is what I was looking for. So far in the search around me which includes about two-three hours radius (getting tired of driving so far for a truck) I only found one that fit my criteria. So I started looking farther and only came up with a few more that was nice. Of course some of them I got sticker shock on but I guess that is to be expected. Just seems to be a dieing breed. I am somewhat particular when it comes to colors and what I want when looking. Not looking for a mint truck but one that is still all there and not rusted out and hand everybodies hands on. Just thought I would share my thoughts and see if you all thought the same. It seems like there are a ton of short beds that you can find but nice long beds are alot fewer. Here is a pic of the one that I was going to call about but they took the ad down. Nothing fancy but I like the blue factory two tones.

Re: Nice C10 long beds getting harder to find?
27 years is a long time for what would have been sold as a work truck to survive in good condition. I agree they're getting harder to come by, but that's what makes it great when you do see one.
They are still out there though, being picky on the color does make it a lot more difficult. http://chambana.craigslist.org/cto/4792579942.html http://bloomington.craigslist.org/cto/4791092509.html To make the issue of finding them for lower prices more difficult is that most people that don't price them high also don't advertise them, so they're hiding out with for sale signs in driveways, front lawns, and random parking lots. Good luck, I don't know where you're at in IL, but if I see anything close to what you're looking for in IN I'll post it in this thread. |

Also, you may want to consider a C20/R20. In my area it seems like when they're advertised they're in a little bit better condition for some reason.

Still rust free and available in SW desert, but they will have dents and dings. Recently, old squares have dried up in all the AZ junkyards, for some unknown reason. Maybe people have scrapped all of them by now.
Check CL for Phoenix, Tucson, Albuquerque, Dallas, Los Angeles, etc. and you will find them. Always worth the $800 or so transportation cost to get a rust free truck. |

I scored pretty good on my 85 Chevy the body is in near perfect condition exept for the surface rust on the cab the inside of the bed is also near perfect , it was a $1000 .

This trip will be a bit differnt as I'm havin a 20ft deckover trailor with a 4 ft dovetail custom made so I can buy "something" else to haul back on it. So this is how it plays out , fly out oneway, buy a 38 yr old truck I've never seen, attach a new 3500lb trailor to the back of it, go looking for a suitable passenger for the trailor and drive the 2000 miles back home....without any problems |

Still on the lookout. Been keeping an eye open for a nice roller. Short bed, long bed 2 or 4wd.

May both be more than you're wanting to spend but they might negotiate.

I am still looking though. I might just wait until winter is about over that way I don't have to watch my pennies so much. Truck washing has slowed down a bit for my since winter hit. Alot of the companies that I wash their trucks for don't run in the winter. Might pick up by March I hope. I sure appreciate you remembering me when you are out looking. Not everyone would do that. I try to help who I can also no matter how little or if I never met them. Thanks again.

I agree with the other people suggesting you look at a 3/4 ton. There isn't much reason to go with a 1/2 ton instead (if they're in the same condition etc).

Re: Nice C10 long beds getting harder to find?
I guess I am a bit particular. I want the half ton rallies on one preferably with a two tone paint that I like. Not just any truck will do. I get told that I am picky. Lol.
