VIN Decoder for C60?

So I have had this C60 in my front yard since I bought the house 2 years ago. Does anyone know of a special place online to decode a big truck VIN? Most the generic ones don't recognize the VIN that was stamped on the GVWR tag on the door striker area.

C16DA9V18xxxx 19,2000 max weight

Thanks!

Re: VIN Decoder for C60?

Here is the link where I found the info

http://service.gm.com/dealerworld/vi.../vincard79.pdf

C = Chevy
1 = 4x2
6 = 16,000 - 25,000 GVW range (C-60 series)
D = 97.5 BBC Conventional Cab
A = 350 engine
9 = Model Year
V = Assembly Plant (I think GM Truck Pontiac)

Thanks for the help on that one! So I'm thinking it's a 79. I'd imagine 89 would have a square headlight.

Re: VIN Decoder for C60?

nope, that body style for the C40-70 series trucks remained basically unchanged from 74 through at least 1990. The Vin # system changed in 1981, starting with a 1

Re: VIN Decoder for C60?

So given that, it's just a cheap and cool hunk of metal. I'm up in the air wether to register this some day and get it going, or get rid of it for scrap and make some more room in the drive... I am pretty sure it'll need quite a bit of work, it's been sitting about 6-10 years at the least, but it was parked only because "the brakes went out"

Re: VIN Decoder for C60?

In '81 they changed the badges on the side from the kind you have to plastic ones, and they quit putting the trim level badge on the side. If you decide not to get it running I'd suggest pulling the non-rusty body panels and selling them. Most of those trucks around here are getting kinda rusty, especially ones like yours with the steel fenders and hood. From the pic it looks like you got a good hood.

Re: VIN Decoder for C60?

Hello All,

This Australian Built C60 Truck,

along with the Bedford Trucks built here too, may have different Vin Numbers?

The one pictured, has a Vin# - AJ505267

Is this correct for an Australian Built, 1975 C60 Chevy?

Any help will be appreciated.

Re: VIN Decoder for C60?

Well Folks,

and it has the 'C' starting on the VIN Number hey.

So looks like the C60 Truck I am picking up tomorrow is a Fake.
