1999 CK Tahoe

Local lot has a 1999 CK tahoe that I keep seeing on my way home from work. Its a 4wd 5.7/auto. I know what the mpg is rated at but what are you guys who have them actually getting? I`m guessing 1996-2000 vortec 5.7 would be the same. My 97 GMC 5.7 barely gets 14mpg.

Dude, I'm not even counting. MPG is just not at the top of the list of things important to me. Economy doesn't always equate to good value. Gas is cheap ($1.90 a gallon here). I'm sure the Tahoe is cheap.

Well its important to me so that's why I posted this. I see guys on this here with a similar truck as mine claiming upwards on 20mpg on the freeway and I'm no where near that. I'm considering this Tahoe and curious what the real world mpg is because we all know it never matched what the EPA rates it at.

Re: 1999 CK Tahoe

Mine is 14 - 15.
The guy claiming 20 needs to get his speedo/odometer fixed or swap back to stock type tires. These have the aerodynamics of a barn.
But my 2-door 4WD is the best vehicle I've ever owned.

I use to get 20+mpg with my old 99 CK but I had the 5.0 vortec. Pretty powerful for a 305. I have heard guys say 17-18mpg on the freeway with the 5.7 but I'm not seeing it and I went from the 31x10.5 to the stock 235/75/15. Got a little better with that and a tune up but it gets terrible mileage. I bought this truck to replace my 83 C10 with a carbed 305 and 700R4 thinking I'd get better milage but that truck was getting almost 16mpg. My 97 is a 2wd extended cab but doesn't have the 3rd door so I'm just thinking of going to a Tahoe for the room. I was just curious what real world mileage was. If I can make a deal I'll still get a Tahoe. The one I'm looking at is pretty clean. Its a 4dr too which helps with my kids. The lot is asking $3,995 but I'm hoping to knock that down some.

Re: 1999 CK Tahoe

My son has a '99 4-door. If you have kids, the 2-door is almost useless but little ones can get in, you can almost forget getting any adult to even try to get into the back seat.

But the 2-door looks so cooool!

By the way, wheelbase difference between a 2 and 4 door is less than a foot!

And you'll love the turning radius!

Re: 1999 CK Tahoe

Calculated just over 18mpg on the maiden voyage home with my '97 2dr/2wd a couple years ago. I had not checked it anymore until about a month ago, & I got about 17.5 then driving pretty darn conservatively (speeds 65mph or less). Both trips were a majority of highway. Not sure what I get around town. I have the 5.7 Vortec with 3.42 rear end ratio.

Re: 1999 CK Tahoe

I have a 1999 Tahoe 4 door 4 x 2 with the 255hp 350/4L60E combo and 3:08 gears, its a Z56 Police Package truck. It also has a K& N Filter Charger setup and driving to LA from here driving down the I15 at 75/80 I got 19mpg on most tanks and 20 on one. 4 x 4 Tahoes usually have 3:73 rear gears so 13/14 sounds realistic to me.

Re: 1999 CK Tahoe

my 1997 chevy k1500 ext cab short bed 5.7 gets 17 around town and roughly 20 on the highway. take into account that i have 3.73 gears, 2 1/2 exhaust ,k&n air filter kit & 265 75r16 tires. all of these things play in to what your mpg will be. hope this helps.
