79 wheel swap

I'm wanting to do a wheel swap from a 2006 3/4 ton 4 wheel drive with stock aluminum 8 lug GM wheels to a 79 3/4 ton 4 wheel drive with steel wheels. The 06 aluminum wheel has the center cap with plastic nuts that thread on to the lug nut.

My issue is the studs. the 06 uses metric studs and I beleive the 79 to be standard thread. Has anybody done this swap? What did you do? Switch the studs or use different nuts? Where did you get them?

A longer stud wouldn't hurt with the aluminum wheels. Thanks in advance!

They make conversion nuts, that are called "conversion nuts." Theyhave standard threads on the inside, and what ever threads on the outside to do just what you want. Just google "GM conversion lug nuts."

Re: 79 wheel swap

I went different way, and bored out the lug holes to use mag wheel nuts. I added a 1/2 spacer to make it easy, but one could get by with a 1/4 inch. In the future I plan to add the nipple caps to fill up the center.
