Replacement heater control levers? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Well I was playing with the ol 64 GMC tonight and broke the middle lever off at the knob. 😡 Well I was looking in classic parts and they have a steal set for around $37. Has any one used this set and are the better (as far as movement) the the original cast ones?

Honestly I've thought of welding hole in dash shut and going to some pull knobs. This isn't the first time it's happend and I only have one more original middle lever left.

Other reason I've thought of putting pull cables in is so I can have controls closer to me. All you GMC guy know what I'm talking about. Having to reach across the dash to adjust heater.

I have to reach too which is a pain. When I got my truck, it came with a box of a few replacement parts and there were steel levers in there. I re-did my whole heater system and the steel works fine - probably stronger than cast. The older and stiffer cables need to be thoroughly cleaned and re-lubed cause they get really stiff and put a lot of stress on the cast lever causing them to break.

I think pull knobs would be nice but I want to keep my truck original

Mine are new cables when I built the truck. But I've broke this will make 3 center levers. I think it's because of the reach they push to one side and eventually snap the ends off. I've got it now where I can use the heater. But just tired of replacing levers. May just buy steel ones and hope they last.

Not to worried about stock on mine. 4 trucks in to one! 1985 suspension and rear end. 1982 350 with a late 70's 350 trans. Cab from one, frame and bed from another. Etc.... Lol

I have replaced my broken one's with steel and no more problem's . I took cable's out and lubed all ,will make them easier to use.

Well i did go ahead and buy the new steel levers. Works great.
