Painting a frame question?

I'm gonna have the body off the frame of my 67 c10. The frame is pretty clean but I would like to get a fresh coat of paint on it. I'm gonna wire wheel it first to get any loose paint and rust off. What are you guys using to paint your frames. I'm thinking about por15 but I heard it has to be top coated. Any other good paints out there that would be good for a frame that wouldn't have to be top coated? Thanks guys!

Re: Painting a frame question?

I sprayed my frame with implement paint from tractor supply.......I couldn't afford por 15 or powder coating at the time. I put five coats on it and the paint turned perfect and hard as a rock. I'm reassembling it now without a scratch......just my opinion if you are on a budget

Considering sunlight won't be shining on your frame I don't think you'd need to top coat POR15

Satin is what I sprayed.....I figured gloss was too hard to keep clean ....but in the end you will do whatever makes you happy

For a truck I'm going to drive, I use Rustoleum code 7777 satin. It comes in cans for your gun and spray bombs for touch up.

Re: Painting a frame question?

Please tell me you're not gonna touch the awesome paint on the body and implement paint works, or I've heard Eastwood had somethin for frame paint. I'll try n look up the thread. Edit: apparently Eastwood is crap when it comes to frame paint. I'd say por15 or implement or rustoleum is your best bet.

Re: Painting a frame question?

I used Chassis Saver, it's a lot like Por15. $40/quart, but a quart would do your whole frame. It can be sprayed or brushed on. I brushed mine and it came out pretty good.

Re: Painting a frame question?

I used eastwood extreme chassis black single stage. I sandblasted, epoxy primed, and followed up with chassis black. As long as you have a solid base that's clean you should be good. Your paint is only as good as your prep. Chassis black isn't bad but opt for the 2k if you do, not the single stage. There are many options when it comes to paint. Good luck.

Re: Painting a frame question?

I sprayed mine with satin black epoxy primer, bought a gallon from summit , i think it was around $40-50, used it on everything, cheaper than buying can after can
