Can someone explain the 4WD options?

I am noticing some have manual shifting for 4WD and others have electronic. Was this by package or did they go back later on to manual?

Depends on the transfer case in the vehicle. Although most up trim 1/2 ton Tahoe's and burbs had push button 4wd or the full time option. Work trucks, base models and 3/4 tons-1tons had lever shift cases for the most part. There were at least 3 or 4 different t- cases used between 88-99.

Re: Can someone explain the 4WD options?

All depends on the options of the truck

I've seen plenty of high optioned Silverado trim trucks with floor shift transfer cases

The np241 was manual shift and used in 1/2 and 3/4 ton trucks

The np243 was electric shift and used in 1/2 and 3/4 ton trucks

The np246 was electric shift and had an auto 4wd function. It was in 1/2 and 3/4 ton trucks. It wasn't offered until 98.

1 tons trucks had Borg Warner transfer cases.
