for those of us wanting a OEM radio
Heres some inspiration. Original 67. I polished up the original paint, cleaned the heck out of everyrhing, found and used the oem brackets and used 2 4x6 speakers and wired for an 8ohm load. I even used the braket to hold em in. Tricky work. And did you guys know that the cabs without factory installed radios have two dimples where the bracket bolts up? Very helpful

Re: for those of us wanting a OEM radio
There's nothing wrong with an AM radio if your area has the channels. Nice work cleaning it up! I was sort of doing this though..... haha

Re: for those of us wanting a OEM radio
You can send your origional radio out for a internal conversion that includes FM, RCA's ect.
Heres a thread on it. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=657008

Re: for those of us wanting a OEM radio
I'm hoping to refurb or replace the factory radio with one that has the old school look but has the hidden bells and whistles.
What's involved in removing the radio on these things? (Truck is in another town, else I'd go out and stick my head under the dash.) thanks

Re: for those of us wanting a OEM radio
The heater controls are in the way also, for removal. I have a parts cab that was painted at the factory with delete plate in place, raw dash underneath!! That would be a rude awakening if you choose to upgrade to a radio in your new truck.

I've been joking that I'm going to put a new radio/speaker in the truck, so at least I can listen to music while I try to get it up and running. LOL

Re: for those of us wanting a OEM radio
My truck came radio delete but was painted from the factory underneath the plate. I removed glove box to access easier. My radio delete plate is mounted on the floor heat duct just to keep it in truck for conversation piece. I also added a bracket to the dash using the bottom heater control screws which needs to be painted yet so I can clip my phone with otter box on it and can still use heat controls.oem radio works with single dash speaker but I mounted an amp and two speakers under the seat and hid wire under floor mat up and behind dash
and through ash tray to plug into earphone jack on my phone. This way kind of looks stock but can still enjoy music or podcast from my phone. Sorry about upside down picture but could not seem to correct it. |

Re: for those of us wanting a OEM radio
I haven't priced any yet, or done much research, but I saw a radio on TV the other day that looks stock until you flip a switch. Then it's suddenly all digital and has most/all of the abilities of a modern stereo. Really liked it.
And I still need to install an antenna since at some point many years ago, my dad (for some unknown reason) remove the antenna and plugged the hole with an old TV channel knob and some kind of epoxy. LOL EDIT: Looked up some prices. Yeah, this mod will have to wait for a while

Re: for those of us wanting a OEM radio
hammersmith, Are you running the digit signal through the AM Delco to the amp and the two speakers, or is it a separate system?
