V12 702 on craigslist

2500 for the whole truck. I talked him down and this is the lowest he will take, I cant seem to find a way to get it from Vermont to nj. boy I want the drivetrain so badly is there any interest in the body if I found a way to get it home

Ok guys its not mine but the guy will sell the motor and scrap the rest of the truck if no one is interested. I want this so bad but it just isn't feasible for me at the moment. I got some pics from the guy

he is asking 3500 but is negotiable

Re: V12 702 on craigslist

The truck looks very restorable. Someone needs to save it. No Title shouldn't be that big of a problem. It probably has low miles being an ex-Fire Truck as well.

Haven't seen those GMC Flaps in years. They were available back in the '70's or 80's. I've still got an NOS set in storage.

The owner should be able to get a historical vehicle license...........Then you transfer it to your state . I got titles on 2 trucks through an ex-car dealer in Vermont.

The Wife would kill me If I buy another truck, this one should be saved, now if you all wanted to take up a collection and have it shipped to Utah, I would not turn it away when it gets here.....

Re: V12 702 on craigslist

Here's a chance for someone to buy it possibly cheaper. If the owner is reasonable to deal with, he will probably be happy with "Scrap Price".

This way not only will he know it will go to better use, he now won't have to haul it !!

Re: V12 702 on craigslist

I just joined the group today. I wonder if the guy still has the V-12 truck? I am interested in it. I drove one some 50 years ago hauling agricultural lime from Montevallo, AL to Northwest Florida. Little over 400 miles round trip. The trip loaded usually was started after midnight to avoid the weight cops and scales. I was grossing over 100,000 so it made it easier on tires too. It was a B 7000 with only a 5 speed. Worked great .... just don't get off hard ground. It was geared too high and wouldn't start the load but would pass Macks, Whites and Diamond T's on the road at that load.
I worked on the Cooper-Bessemer LS-8 engines for 41 years. They were 15 1/2" bore and 22" stroke. 2000 bhp@330 rpm. Crankshaft journals are 12" diameter. 8 cylinder inline and did some maintenance on Cooper-Bessemer LSV-16 rated 5500bhp@330rpm. Some heavy iron...see picture. I have picture of an 8 cylinder torn down if anyone is interested.

Jessus. That rod is BENT! What kind of horrific thing was witnessed when that thing was bent, I don't know.

I'd be VERY interested in seeing that picture of the torn down engine. What are these engines used for? Power generation/mining production?

Re: V12 702 on craigslist

These engines pull natural gas compressors on a pipeline. Some are in generator service(1200 KW) and some are on big tug boats. They are dual fuel...meaning they will run on natural gas or diesel. Most gas engines are spark ignition but some use a tiny bit of diesel(10%) for ignition. The engine weighs approx 180,000#. The crankshaft weighs about 22,000# and the flywheel weighs in at around12,000#. I bent the rod in 1975 when I attempted to start the engine and water had leaked on top of the piston forming a liquid lock. It broke the piston and cylinder liner and bent the rod. Just those three parts back then were 30,000 dollars. The rod cost 18,000. I guess you could say I am a knuckle dragging mechanic!!

Re: V12 702 on craigslist

I tried search Tempest (searches all of Craigslist) and wasn't able to find any.

Did come across this http://www.thunderv12.com/

Oldflyboy...interesting information and pictures. Proves regardless the size of the engine, water still isn't compressable....thanks for sharing.

Re: V12 702 on craigslist

I have been to the Thunder v12 page. Their engines are pricey. The V-12's are very scarce and I might not be able to find on at my price. I want to put the V-12 in an old cabover truck. If the GMC B7000 at the top of this thread were available I would just restore the truck.

Water don't compress very good. Bending rods happened all too regular back then. We went to silicone gasket and "O" rings and that problem went away.

Re: V12 702 on craigslist

That's a pretty good deal. If the truck runs as good as it looks, it would even be a better deal. Truck looks pretty nice.
