Reskinning Sub 3rd Door????
Anyone ever reskin the 3rd door with a new replacement skin for the FRONT pass door???? As you can see in the attached pic, mine is hurt a little too bad to just pop out the dent but it has no rust at all in the door.
Do you think it would work??

I haven't done it, but have been wondering the same thing. In your case, I don't think you have anything to lose. Might as well give it a try and if it doesn't turn out you'll be in the same spot that your in now...looking for a third door.
Here is a picture of mine. The bottom tub thing is rusted so I need to take the door apart to put a new bottom tub in the door, and the skin has some long dents across the bottom. Do I put a new skin on while I have the door apart to put the bottom tub in?

Reskinning the 3rd door
.....is an option. However, remember that the Suburban 3rd door is not as wide as the pass or driver doors. This plan would require resizing the new door skin door skin and ensuring that the "new" end is folded and bent over to replicate the rest of the contours. I suspect it would work, but would take some metal fabrication work.....just a though to consider.

This is how I was thinking of attempting it. I realize that the front door skin is longer but a cut off disc on an angle grinder works wonders. I did take some careful measurements and it appears that the front skin will line up in the doorhandle area leaving just the front edge to be trimmed. In the photo, I drew a crude dotted line where I would trim the original skin, leaving the upper part intact. If you notice, the doorskin is slightly different at the top in the area that I circled, this is why I would leave that area intact.... I figured once at that point, I could cut the new skin at the same spot and weld up everything as ebfabman does.... then just go ahead and crimp the doorskin on as originally done....
Just my ideas. Anyone else think of a way yet???

I would LOVE to find one RUST FREE and straight for $100 to $150. The only problem is THEY AREN'T AROUND HERE!! I only know of 3 subs in my area and I own 2 of them. The other is a 51K orig mile 68 that is near mint.
I'm not in a hurry, if anyone on here is going to the spring Carlilse, Pa or Hershey,Pa swap meets in April and has a nice, rustfree door they want to sell me, I'lle pick it up then.

BAGGED91-- IF YOU WANT TO BUY A NICE , STRAIGHT, RUSTFREE 3RD DOOR, YOU PROBABLY WONT FIND ONE BACK THERE IN THE RUST BELT. MOST OF THEM HAVE EITHER RUSTED AWAY OR WERE CRUSHED 25 YEARS AGO. YOU WILL HAVE TO HAVE ONE SHIPPED FROM OUT WEST IN THE DESERT SOMEPLACE. AT A COST OF AROUND $50 -$60 FOR SHIPPING. JOHN
