Lowering a 68 SWB w/Drums
I'm sitting on 15-16inch Rally Wheels now and want to lower it with a slight rake in front. I was thinking 4rear and 3front with coils for now to stay within a budget. I read somewhere if i go with drop spindles and convert to front discs,((planned for later) I would have to get bigger wheels? Any thoughts.
Thanks, Jay |

Re: Lowering a 68 SWB w/Drums
I went with lowered springs front and rear to stay in budget, too. also went with new "Lowered" Monroe shocks using part numbers I found on this site, with a cheap track bar off of ebay. I think I've got like 300.00 invested max.
I think you'll have 5 lug pattern on the discs if you swap to those. Then you'll need to screw with the back wheels too ps I'm jealous of the shop you got in the back |

Re: Lowering a 68 SWB w/Drums
You do not need to get bigger wheels for stock sized disc brakes (12"). You can also get disc brake kits with 6 lug rotors so you won't have to change over to 5 lug.
As for your question, yes you could do 3" springs front and 4" springs rear. I will say that I had 3" dropped springs in my '65 C10 and it rode like crap and bottomed out all the time. Changed over to 2" dropped spindles and 1" dropped springs and it was night and day difference. It rode so great and never had an issue bottoming out. Nice thing with this method, you can run standard length shocks in the front too. At 4" drop in the rear, I would recommend rear shock relocaters as the stock angle of the shocks gets really bad and the rear shocks don't really do their job. The relocaters will make the shock more upright and allow them to work correctly.
