if your truck has a factory engine oil cooler and over 75K miles....

Ok...so I thought I'd share a little experience my wife had this past fall. While picking up our kiddos from school, her engine light came on, oil gauge dropped to 0 and a loud repetitive dash siren was constantly blaring.

I told her over the phone whatever is wrong you still need to get the truck home and I'll deal with whatever is wrong. Her '05 Denali (6.0 LS) sounded like a diesel pulling in the driveway. She drove it about 10 minutes with no oil pressure.

Didn't take long to find the problem-the factory oil line blew right out of the compression fitting! No rip or tear-it just "slipped out". Parts stores stock a Dorman line set for about $60. Its $30 from Rockauto and while I would prefer an AC Delco part, I needed it asap so the Taiwan parts store lines had to do. Granted, this truck has 152K miles on it but my friends 07 HD pickup has 66K on it and its got a tiny oil leak at the same spot as mine did. It only rarely dripped on the ground so I wasn't worried about it much.

No engine damage resulted since I run Mobil 1 anyway but word of caution-if your truck has the original lineset installed still, I would suggest replacing it while you can instead of waiting until you HAVE to. Imagine if we were on the interstate when the line decided to blow....?!? Could have been crazy worse!

If they drip I replace them, if they seep I recommend them. There shouldn't be any compression fittings on the lines. Just aluminum lines and rubber hose. They are joined with a crimped on clamp.

You'll find that the aftermarket lines will leak a lot sooner than the original lines.

The original ones were GM-aluminum line crimped onto the rubber hose. It was a rare case where nobody had GM lines in stock and I had to fix it that night. But, GM ones are sitting in the garage so if the new ones look sketchy off they'll come! I can only imagine what the person driving behind my wife must have thought when they seen all that oil blasting out from under her Denali-lol talk about a real life Spy Hunter!

Good luck with those dorman lines. I wouldn't trust them to last more than 5 seconds. I've got a set at work here with less than 1000 miles and are cracked worse than the 40 year old fuel hose under my trucks cab.
Dorman is ok as long as it's not made from metal, rubber, or plastic
