installing a BBC 454

Thinking of swapping out a 350 for a 454 in my 48 pickup would like to hear from others who have done this swap. Anything I should know before I start. Clearance issues I should know about.

Re: installing a BBC 454

Thanks never thought about the valve covers hitting. Was worried about the distributor hitting.

Re: installing a BBC 454

Take a look at my build thread, we did a big block in a 52. I think I would have had less trouble with it had we gone with a different accessory drive setup. We went with the March setup and it was really tight. But it will fit. Let me know if you any other questions.

Re: installing a BBC 454

I put a BBC in my 49 suburban that has a 69 nova front clip. Moved motor back about 3 inches to get room in front for fan,etc and recessed firewall. I had to rework one of tubes on the headers on driver side to get around steering box. Just know you are putting the 10 pounds of "stuff" in a 5 pound box so plan accordingly. Also depending on BBC build it lots of torque so make sure you reinforce frame rails, crossmembers to prevent twisting of frame. Last thing to think about is brakes should be updated to help stop the beast. Good luck and post pics of the build.
