Speedometer help
Just got a '65 Suburban. Speedometer cable not attached to back of speedometer. When I stuck it in there, the indicator bobbles a bit and shows about double the actual speed and the odometer also moves rapidly. Any advice? Thanks.
I suppose some folks would like to see a picture...that's always fun.

Beautiful Sub! My 65 Sub was originally that same blue. Anyways, I would check the speedometer gear in the trans. This is just a shot in the dark. My old 65 Chevy II 4 door had the same issue, and got a new gear from the dealer, and it solved the problem. The gears are different colors. Start with the simple stuff, and proceed from there. Here's a few more, I just snapped the interior shots right now. I want to replace the white door panels. Previous owner had speakers in the door, upon inspection they were rubbing the gears inside..didn't work anyway, took them out. I'd like to simply cover them with stained wood to tie in with the rear panels, simple and cheap and should tie it all together. Fuel gauge doesn't work either..any advice on that too? I wanted the smaller middle bench so we can lay down our upright bass; my boys and I have a band, this will be our band truck, we can all load in it with gear and all one trip.
I didn't JUST get it...had it for over a year and it's been in the shop till last week. It's a work in progress still...suppose they always are.

OK it looks like I've got a TH350 transmission which I don't believe was original in this truck. So I bet we've got to get the right gear for the speedometer.

Thanks for posting the photos. You will have to change your speedometer drive gear they come in different colors that correspond to the number of teeth. If you do a Google search there it a calculator that you input your tire size and gear ratio and it calculates the Speedo drive gear that you require.
