engine

I need an engine for my 64 sb. Pace performance sells a 4 bolt 260hp 350 complete motor.A chevy crate block, no reman, with a th350 trans and torque converter with some other stuff. Does anyone have any info on these combos or on pace performance in general. My truck will be my daily driver, and I won't be doing any racing. I'm looking for smooth power and reasonable mileage. I will be using a 3:08 gear.

Re: engine

A friend of mine bought one of those a long time ago and he still beats the hell out of it to this day. He has a turbo350 and 308 gears and a quadrajet too. Not especially fast, (a late model Caravan beat us in a drag race once) but definitely a fine running motor. It could pull an old single axle camper trailer with no problems.

Re: engine

Pace performance has been around for quite some time and I have not heard any negative feedback about them. The 260hp crate engine should make for a nice driver. You might check into what the difference in cost would be for the 290hp crate engine. If I'm not mistaken, Jegs currently has a sale on those.

Re: engine

Yes the L31 Vortec 350 long block is an excellent choice, but it is a bit more money than the 260 or 290hp 350. It does depend on the OP's budget and whether he already has an intake and distributor or not. The L31 long block would definitely be my choice if budget permits.

Re: engine

Those engines were probably the best GM put in a truck. Alot of those engines are still on the road today. With a little maint 300,000 easy.
