How about the trans modulator line?
Mine goes modulator -> rubber -> steel attached with bracket to back side of head -> rubber vacuum.

I've never seen that hooked up any other way.

On my truck, when converting from a manual to an auto tranny, I used the steel piece from a '71 Monte. I think they used steel to avoid melting the rubber vacuum line.

The length of the line in this application allows it to flex without breaking for hundreds of thousands of miles.

However, some cars do have sections of rubber built into their lines for just that purpose, mostly front wheel drive cars that don't have the length in their lines so rubber is OK, just don't let it get near high heat like exhaust pipe for example and be sure to use actual transmission hose, not fuel hose (others may chime in and say they used fuel hose but for me I like to use the actual recommended product).

And also make sure the steel parts of the lines have a "bubble" or bump in the line to prevent the hose from sliding off despite the clamp. I like to use the first stage of the double flare operation to make the bubbles.
