Re: Post your builds of longbed to shortbed conversion !
Bodywise im thinking of making it into a shortbed (not sure yet) , i want to put a new grille, new paint job, put a 4/6 drop, new tailgate because the current one is off a gmc and its pretty messed up, i also want to remove the rear bumper and add a roll pan for that "shaved look". Interior wise i want to switch out the bench seat and add some bucket seats, i want to switch the original steering wheel also and add a Grant Chrome Steering Wheel, i would also love to switch out the gauges with white faced aftermarkets. Engine wise its pretty nice it has a 350 with longtube headers and a nice cam, i would name everything else but i am currently learning about these trucks haha First thing that i am gonna start off with is switching the speedometer because its currently not working, i dont know if its the speedometer wire or the gauge itself.

New guy here. I just joined today. I love this forum. Do you have a shop or did you do this yourself in your garage? And are you a welder/fabricator by trade? I'm only asking because I am planning on doing this to mine and want to make a decision weather to try it on my own with some jack stands and a welder in my garage.

Re: Post your builds of longbed to shortbed conversion !
One more question, did you use a reciprocating saw or a plasma cuter? I will probably look for another bed or an aftermarket bed kit and try to sell my original bed. It's in perfect condition so I'm hoping to get something for it.

Well this one is a long way from being done but here's a couple shots of my 1 ton dually frame I cut down a couple weeks ago. Wanting to build a 1 ton, short-bed, step-side, dually. A phantom if you will.

Re: Post your builds of longbed to shortbed conversion !
its easy.i dont have professional training just done it for 16+ yrs fo myself.a plasma cutter is good for some of it.i left extra material on frame so i could grind it to a perfect fit.i did use the ideas from a c10 builders guide magazine.i have a short bed already for it but i will be turning the long bed to short bed soon enough.be real picky on your measurements, marks and where you put your cuts.

Re: Post your builds of longbed to shortbed conversion !
Thats exactly what i want to build too.I would like to try to fit the dually wheels inside the stepside fenders.have you ever seen this done?I asked my boss about it and he said if you narrow the axle enough that the wheels fit in the fenders, the inside tires will hit the frame. What do you think?

They made duallys that fit the tires inside the fender wells .
