power steering puked

i jacked up my c10 and turned the wheels with the motor not running and about half a pint of power steering fluid came out of the cap of the pump.is that not normal?

Sounds like it might have been overfilled.

When you turned the steering wheel, the piston in the box pushed all the fluid back to the pump.

I think that might be normal,(at least in my simple mind) when not running the pump circuts not working so the (valves, pistons) aren't letting the fluid flow to the other side of the system, which causes the fluid to push out the fill. Boy, it sure sounds good, I'm convinced...LOL
